The Greater Hidden Hills Overlay Project is coming along with lots of input from community members and great assistance from the DeKalb Planning along with the great vision from Jan Costello. I want to say I remember the spark that lite this flame and she and others in Hidden HIlls have been through the entire journey.
My journey in search of a bagel brought me to a neighborhood that has a layout similar to what the Greater Hidden Hills Overlay is seeking to be--a neighborhood with shops, office space, and homes layed out in a pedestrian friendly way. On our search for our delicious bagels, we parked our car and could go to Public's to food shop, the hardware store, the bagel shop, enjoy a nice lunch outside on the patio, without driving to each place and if we lived in the neighborhood, we could have biked or walked there. And the people, when not in a hurry seaching for parking, jumping in and out of their cars, speeding to the next errand, were friendly, smiling, and just seem to enjoy themselves.
Driving from that area back to our neighborhood on Redan and South Hairston, I could see the value of the Overlay Project and how it could bring great improvement to our area by creating a more pedestrian friendly, greenspace which would hopefully attract those pedestrian friendly businesses where we could enjoy the day maybe lunching at a siewalk cafe instead of a drive-thru. Our area is more rural but there is nothing that says we cannot and should not take control of the future progress of our area to attract the kind of atmosphere that people are leaving here to find elsewhere.
