Hidden Hills Overlay

The Greater Hidden Hills Overlay Project is coming along with lots of input from community members and great assistance from the DeKalb Planning along with the great vision from Jan Costello. I want to say I remember the spark that lite this flame and she and others in Hidden HIlls have been through the entire journey.

My journey in search of a bagel brought me to a neighborhood that has a layout similar to what the Greater Hidden Hills Overlay is seeking to be--a neighborhood with shops, offic… Continue

In search of a bagel...In Stone Mountain????

I had an urge to eat a really good bagel. I hadn't had one in a long time. I didn't want a grocery store bagle, i.e. Lenders, or a frozen bagle that I have to put in the toaster, but a real bagel. If I had gotten up really early I could have gone to Kroger or Public's bakery and purchased one from them, but by the time I get there they are all gone and the choice is just not what I'm looking for. The Value of HHCA

I study the Toyota style of management as well as Deming because Toyota is such a successful company coming from the lessons learned since Hiroshima. Each culture learns from experiences, good or bad, and each lesson creates an opportunity for growth. I say growth, not failure because as you go through the years, you realize that what you might think is a failure or pain now, will turn out to be a growth lesson for the future. The first thing I learned is to be quiet. Be quiet, listen, and watch… Continue

Neighbor Day

Spring Neighbor Day was well coordinated by Wanda Dunn, Melody Kenner and with assistance from Lawns Plus, DeKalb County Sanitation, and daVido's Pizza. The DeKalb Sanitation truck was brought in to collect items from old tires to furniture and appliances. Anyone who had those items did not have to truck them all the way to Memorial Drive, they could bring them to Biffle Park. The gentlemen handling these recycled items also gave a hand in cleaning up some areas and driving around the neighborho… Continue

Prayers and elation

Tuesday, January 20, 2009 the day the first African American President of the United States of America is to be sworn into office. An historic day that will be in the history books from now to eternity. As a Black woman I share in the proudness of the moment that Dr. Martin Luther King said "Free at Last; Free at Last..." and I am elated to know that dreams, prayers, success does come to those who work hard while they wait. I feel free today more than ever, I feel hope for my grandchildren that… Continue
